The Charterhouse Group of Therapeutic Communities was an umbrella body bringing together children’s therapeutic communities. Established in 1999 the Group’s mission was the support the research and development of psychodynamic based therapy and education for children and young people who had suffered trauma. The Charterhouse Group had nineteen members, including leading providers of children’s residential care such as Childhood First, the Caldecott Foundation and Amicus Community. Members had to meet 20 mandatory standards which were linked to outcomes such as the need for children to experience a safe, secure, nurturing environment where they can form trusting relationships with adults and peers. The Group closed in 2012.
